About the role
As Deputy Head of Digital Communications, you’ll provide strategic leadership and inclusive management of the team responsible for the Mayor of London and London Gov’s digital engagement.
Working closely with the Head of Digital Communications and the Mayoral Head of Digital, you’ll help shape and deliver an ambitious, data-informed and high-impact digital communications strategy that drives engagement and enhances digital maturity across the organisation.
You’ll lead on planning, delivery and performance evaluation while ensuring the team remains agile, innovative and responsive to the fast-moving landscape of current affairs in the capital.
About you
We would love to hear from you if you have skills and experience in the following:
- Navigating complex political landscapes, bringing insight and sensitivity to high-profile or public-sector settings.
- Proven ability to lead or oversee fast-paced digital communications functions, including rapid-response and newsroom-style operations, with an agile and adaptable approach.
- Track record of designing and delivering ambitious, multi-channel digital communications strategies that drive performance and reach for large, public-facing organisations.
- Broad experience in stakeholder engagement, including the development and implementation of engagement strategies that build trust and collaboration.
- Skilled in project and campaign management, with the ability to oversee multiple, concurrent initiatives from planning to execution.
- Comprehensive understanding of digital communications best practice, including owned and earned social media, email marketing, content strategy, analytics, user experience, and accessibility standards.
- Demonstrated ability to apply audience insight and data-driven approaches, using research, analytics, and intelligence to shape and refine digital content and engagement strategies.
- Experienced in leading and developing high-performing digital communications teams, managing agencies and freelancers, running procurement processes, and overseeing a suite of modern digital tools that support delivery and strategic goals.

The appointment is subject to a successful social media check, confirmation of the right to work in the UK, and a DBS check. The successful candidate must also be willing to undergo National Security Vetting.

- Stage 1 – Online interviews with Diversifying Group: Week commencing 11th & 18th August 2025
- Stage 2 – Face-to-face interviews with the GLA: Week commencing 1st September 2025
