About the ECB
It is an exciting time to join the Enforcement Conduct Board (ECB), which is a newly created organisation established to provide independent oversight of enforcement agents (formerly known as bailiffs) and the enforcement industry.
Formally launched in November 2022, our mission is to ensure that all those who are subject to enforcement action in England and Wales are treated fairly.
The ECB is guided by the principles of independence, ambition, proportionality, collaboration, and transparency. It focuses on delivering five key functions:
- Raising standards
- Improving accountability
- Complaint handling
- Protecting the vulnerable and achieving fairness
Why our work matters
Even before the pandemic, more than 3.5 million enforcement orders and warrants were issued annually. In the first year of the pandemic the number of people in the most severe forms of problem debt rose by over 600,000 to 2.4 million, according to StepChange. The numbers of people experiencing enforcement, and the vulnerability of those people, are set to increase as the cost-of-living increases. And meanwhile, local authorities and other creditors are experiencing unprecedented pressures on their services and income streams, and it has never been more important that they can collect the money that is owed to them effectively and ethically.
About the role
The ECB is currently gearing up to become fully operational as an oversight body from 2025. This role is crucial to the organisation and presents an exciting opportunity to have a huge impact on a vibrant and expanding team during its developmental phase and beyond. You will be providing hands-on support across all areas of the organisation and so each day promises new challenges and opportunities for growth.
As the organisation continues to grow and move into a more operational phase, the role will continue to evolve also and you'll have the chance to shape it according to your aspirations and interests.
About you
We would love to hear from you if you have experience of working successfully in small teams where flexibility and adaptability are crucial and a background in administrative support with the following skills, attributes and capabilities:
- Comfortable with numbers, invoices, and reconciliation
- Writing skills including drafting formal communications (both letters and emails), minute-taking during meetings and report writing
- Experience with Microsoft 365, especially Word, Excel and SharePoint
- Positive "can do" attitude, open to reflection and constructive criticism
- Efficient diary management
- Attention to detail, ensuring precision and thoroughness to prepare high-profile Board Packs, letters, travel arrangements and contributing to a culture of quality and inclusivity
The closing date for applications is Sunday 25th August 2024 at 23.59hrs
