Line Manager: Chair of Heart of Medway Board

Salary: Fee - £1,820 pa

Location: Hybrid (Kent)

Time Commitment: The Heart of Medway Board meets 6-7 times per year. Trustees may serve a maximum of two terms of three years.

Heart of Medway is a Registered Provider and Community Benefit Society, with a charitable purpose.

Heart of Medway provides over 800 homes on the south side of the Thames Estuary in the vibrant area of North Kent. Our core business is affordable rented homes, shared ownership homes and supported living. We own two young peoples’ foyers and added a landmark scheme of 54 new homes for older people in 2021. We also have a small market rent portfolio.

We have an annual turnover of £5.5 million and will invest £50 million in new and existing homes over our current three-year strategic plan.

In our 2021/24 Strategic Plan we committed to:

• Build 275 new homes

• Develop excellent services in partnership with customers through our Service Deal offer

• Start delivery of our new Green Homes Plan

• Make sure that we continue to be well managed and financially strong

Our ultimate ambition is to help end the housing crisis in North Kent by providing safe and sustainable homes.

The Role

We’re looking for an exceptional individual to join our Finance, Risk & Audit Committee (FRAC) as a committee member.

As a Non-Executive Director of the Heart of Medway Board you will be operating within the wider MHS Homes Group structure and assist the Board in:

·Developing the vision of the organisation in partnership with the Chief Executive and Chair

·Acting as a bridge between the organisation and the outside world

·Approving development and growth proposals

·Oversight of service delivery to Heart of Medway customers and other performance indicators

What will I bring to the role

• Proven experience of finance – whether in not for profit or for profit sectors
• Experience of working within organisations committed to delivering excellent service to their customers.
• Demonstrable experience of leadership at a senior level and relevant board experience
• A high level of business acumen and proven budgetary and business planning experience
• Committed to working in an inclusive way with all colleagues and promoting an anti-racist, equal and diverse culture
• An appreciation of and empathy with the role of Housing Associations; a commitment to social housing and tackling the stigma
• Knowledge of cyber risk and security along with digital transformation experience would be desirable
