Project Assistant
Location: preference for London, possibility for elsewhere in UK if frequent travel to London feasible at least 2 days a week
Role: Permanent (subject to funding)
Salary: £30,000 plus 10% employer-contributed pension
Established in 2021, Opportunity Green is a fast-growing not-for-profit organisation that helps to identify and unlock opportunities to tackle climate change. We build ambitious coalitions, support climate vulnerable countries in international negotiations and find innovative legal pathways to emissions reductions. We are now looking for a Project Assistant to join our team and carry out administrative, research and communications tasks.
We recognise that many diverse experiences and perspectives are not represented in our current workforce and are seriously underrepresented across the non-profit sector in general, and as such we particularly welcome applications from people with disabilities and members of BAME and LGBTQ communities.
What’s the role?
As Project Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work with experts in domestic and international climate policy, aviation and shipping industry leaders and contribute to the success of Opportunity Green’s ongoing projects. You will be working closely with Opportunity Green’s CEO, the Partnerships Director and Policy Officer.
This is a wide-ranging role for someone who wants to work in climate and is happy to turn their hand to many different tasks, while receiving excellent insight into climate advocacy.
Your role will mainly involve admin, communications and policy research. You will assist the Policy Officer carrying out research related to the use of green hydrogen and direct air capture by aviation and shipping. You will also support the implementation of communication strategies for EU and UK level engagement and support the Policy Officer and Partnerships Director in organising and facilitating a series of in-person and virtual coalition meetings. You will support the CEO in carrying out admin functions such as office space coordination, IT support, trustee meeting organisation and finance. You may also help the Communications Manager to run Opportunity Green’s twitter and LinkedIn accounts and manage our website.
You need to have:
- A relevant degree or equivalent experience
- Dedication to stopping climate change
- Willingness to turn your hand to a wide range of tasks
- Good communication skills. Experience in social media communications is desirable (work experience, including voluntary experience accepted)
- Excellent time management, an ability to meet deadlines, logically tackle problems, set priorities and communicate on each
- Enough discipline to deliver excellent outcomes in a timely manner while working remotely
- Ability to interact with people from around the world with kindness and respect
- Any knowledge of climate policy, or the aviation, shipping and hydrogen sectors is a bonus
- Be London-based or willing to travel to London at least twice a week.
What we offer
We take our team’s well-being and professional development seriously. We offer:
- A market-leading pension of 10%
- A progressive parental leave policy, including 3 months paid leave for both parents
- A commitment to work/life balance, with generous holidays and the expectation that you fully disconnect while taking them
- Lots of flexibility within a hybrid working arrangement, with regular opportunities to come together as a team or an office in London if you wish to work from there
- Support for your professional development as part of Opportunity Green, with a budget to support your learning & development plus opportunities to lead projects, publish content, learn from experts, work directly with policymakers and stakeholders, and take part in conferences and events
- 25 days holidays per year plus bank holidays and office closure that does not count towards your holiday entitlement between Christmas and New Year’s.
Diversity and inclusion:
Diversity and inclusion are important principles at Opportunity Green. We believe that diversity and inclusion make teams stronger and more effective. We are committed to fair and equitable employment practices and we are striving to ensure that as wide a variety of voices and experiences are included in our organisation as possible. Our commitment to diversity and our parental leave policy are available to view on our website.
We will consider all applicants who meet the minimum requirements of this application regardless of their identity or background. We know that diverse candidates may be put off applying for jobs where they don’t meet 100% of the criteria outlined in the advert, however, we encourage anyone to apply who can demonstrate a variety of skills and experiences relevant to meeting the requirements of this role. We strongly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities and members of the LGBTQ community. We also value flexible working and are open to those who would want to work part time in this role.
If you would like to discuss any reasonable adjustments to the application or hiring process that may better facilitate your participation, please send an email to [email protected] and we will be happy to organise an informal chat with you.
