The US-UK Fulbright Commission works to advance knowledge, promote civic engagement and develop compassionate leaders through education exchange between the peoples of the US and the UK. Our vision is a world in which there are no obstacles to learning, understanding and collaboration. We are governed by a Board of Commissioners (Trustees) made up of both American and British citizens.
At this particularly important time for international education exchange, we are looking for a new Chair of the Board who is passionate about our mission and motivated to drive forward our goals of widening access to all our programming and making a meaningful contribution to solving global challenges. You will provide strategic leadership and ensure that board members fulfil their duties for the effective governance of the organisation. You will act as an ambassador and be the public face of the US-UK Fulbright Commission in partnership with the Executive Director.
You will need to have extensive leadership experience and/or experience chairing a board in the for-profit or not-for-profit sector and possess a track record of major gift fundraising from both individual donors as well as large institutional donors like trusts, foundations and corporates. Expertise and a keen interest in the quality of education in both the US and UK is also desired.
The Trustees meet for a board meeting three times a year with three committees (of which the Chair is an ex-officio member) meeting regularly in between. The position is unremunerated, non-executive and for a three-year term. Candidates must be a UK citizen or have dual citizenship with the UK.
The US-UK Fulbright Commission actively seeks diversity among its team. We seek to attract, develop, retain and promote a talented diverse workforce in a culture where all employees will contribute to their fullest potential. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, but particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and/or minority ethnic candidates, people of all gender identities and gender expressions, people with disabilities and those who are the first generation to go to university in their family.
