The GLA’s Green Infrastructure team promotes and delivers the Mayor's Green Infrastructure policies and programmes, including those relating to biodiversity and rewilding the city.
The team is recruiting a new Nature Recovery Officer to take the day-to-day lead to develop a Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) for London and to work with the GLA’s planning team to prepare for the new mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements introduced by the Environment Act. Your work will contribute to making London’s public realm greener, improving access to, and enhancing green spaces, increasing the capital’s resilience to the impacts of climate change and safeguarding and enhancing biodiversity.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering a programme of work to help the GLA and its stakeholders to prepare for the new duties arising from the Environment Act relating to nature and biodiversity. This will include bringing together and working with a wide range of stakeholders to identify and agree the priorities for a London-wide LNRS, to commission research and evidence as required, and to begin to draft the strategy.
The post holder will also play a lead-role in supporting the GLA’s planning team in preparing for mandatory BNG, including commissioning research, preparing advice, training and guidance and working with boroughs, government departments and other stakeholders to ensure that delivery of the new requirements achieves maximum gains for London’s wildlife.
We are looking for an individual who has significant professional experience within the biodiversity sector, especially in relation to biodiversity policy and working with stakeholders to develop plans and strategies and deliver shared priorities. The post holder will also require a solid understanding of the planning system and how it can secure positive outcomes for biodiversity, ideally within an urban context.
This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL). GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority ethnic candidates and disabled candidates who are currently underrepresented in our workforce.
