We are looking for a Communications Manager to help us talk about the great work being done by the GLA and the Mayor of London. This central role within the Environment and Energy Unit plays a key part in turning technical policy and programme wording into real and meaningful communications to a wide range of audiences.
You will need to be able to produce communications that reach and inform Londoners, as well as our diverse national and international stakeholders. This includes Social media, web pages, blogs, inclusive materials and content, as well as guidance and strategic input for the policy and programme teams.
The role works closely with all of our Environment and Energy policy teams, as well as Communications, Engagement and Press colleagues across the GLA. You will also work with our Mayoral teams to coordinate all strategic Communications for our unit’s vast array of policies and, often world-leading, programmes. This will include, the Ultra-Low Emissions Zone, our suite of energy retrofit programmes, huge tree planting and green-space projects, our work towards Net Zero and supporting the engagement of all Londoners, and much more.
If this opportunity excites you but you’re not 100% sure if you meet all the requirements for the role. Or if you are concerned that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t possible given your personal circumstances – please do not be deterred. We’re aware that candidates can be put off from applying for a job unless they tick every box, or candidates who are parents or have other caring responsibilities may not think they can achieve the flexibility they need. If this is you, we’re keen to connect; and whilst we can’t accommodate every flexible working request, we’ll try to find a practical solution.
This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL). GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
London's diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London's diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority ethnic candidates and disabled candidates who are currently underrepresented in our workforce. For more information on the GLA’s approach to Diversity and Inclusion, please see Diversity and our values | London City Hall
We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share. In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.
If you have a question about the role, please contact [email protected] or a question about the application process, please email [email protected] quoting reference GLA4874.
Please note we do not accept CV’s for this role. All applications for this vacancy must be submitted via our online recruitment system. To apply and to view a copy of the Job Description and Person specification, please click the "Apply Now" button below.
