Under the banner of ‘Skills for Londoners’ the skills agenda is at the heart of the Mayor of London’s vision for recovery in London, ensuring both Londoners and London’s businesses have the skills they need to succeed in a fair, inclusive society and thriving economy.
The Skills & Employment Unit at the GLA is responsible for this vision and is one of the largest and most dynamic Units. The three Delivery teams within the Unit commission and manage a wide range of projects that help to deliver the Mayor’s “Good Work for All “ mission, by supporting Londoners to gain the skills and experience they need to succeed in London’s labour market, and helping businesses to grow.
The Delivery teams are responsible for developing and delivering a complex and varied portfolio of projects encompassing support to Londoners, particularly those who are unemployed and disadvantaged, as well as collaboration with employers, schools, colleges and independent training providers.
The major multi-annual Skills and Employment programmes covered by the advertised roles are:
- £350m+ annual Adult Education Budget (AEB), including the grant and procured programmes
- £18m annual Skills Bootcamps for Londoners which will deliver flexible higher-level skills training provision based on employer/sector ‘in-demand’ skills needs.
- £40m Multiply which is a new government-funded programme to help adults across the UK improve their numeracy skills
- £200m+ Skills for Londoners Capital Fund which is investing in high quality learning environments and equipment.
We are looking for experienced Programme Managers to lead a small team in the delivery of skills and employment programmes.
The advertised roles include:
- 2 x Permanent Programme Manager roles, one leading on Skills for Londoners Capital Programmes and the other leading on AEB grant and procured programmes.
- 2 x Two Year Fixed Term Contracts (until May 2025 and July 2025)for Programme Manager roles, one leading on Skills Bootcamps and the other leading on Multiply and AEB programmes.
The roles will include liaising with the Mayor’s Office, key stakeholders and delivery partners across the portfolio.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting Londoners and London’s businesses to succeed, with strong programme and people management skills, good experience of commissioning and with a proven ability to deliver positive outcomes.
This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL). GLA staff are hybrid working with 2 to 3 days a week spent working in our offices and the remainder working remotely.
